On May 29, as a partner company, Alvantia<\/span> attended the General Assembly of the Spanish Network of the United Nations Global Compact, a leading initiative in corporate sustainability<\/strong>, made up of 1,748 organizations, which this year celebrates its 20th anniversary.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

<\/strong><\/span>The event was opened by Clara Arpa, <\/a><\/strong>President of the UN Global Compact Spain, who pointed out that although great progress has been made in recent years, this “<\/span>is not enough, we need to be more and better.” He also recalled that “companies belonging to the Global Compact are moving faster than others on sustainability.”<\/span><\/p>\n

For her part, Cristina S\u00e1nchez, <\/a><\/strong>executive director of the UN Global Compact Spain, shared how the organization is growing and pointed out that Spain is the second most important network worldwide<\/strong>. This global initiative, present in 167 countries, is made up of more than 21,000 companies, 40% of whose members are European. Sanchez also indicated that in 2023 there was 91% member participation in the proposed activities and that the membership retention rate is 94%.<\/span><\/p>\n

Among the main challenges that companies will face in terms of sustainability, S\u00e1nchez highlighted the transposition of European Union directives, diversity and equality, climate change and the promotion of sustainability in SMEs.<\/span><\/p>\n

On the occasion of its 20th anniversary, the Spanish Network of the UN Global Compact has also launched a website on the History of Sustainability in Spain<\/strong>. It is an interactive space where you can take a tour of the different milestones that have marked the transformation: from the birth of the UN Global Compact Spain, through the creation of the Spanish Strategy for Corporate Social Responsibility, the approval of the 2030 Agenda and its 17 SDGs, to the present day. Users will be able to explore how companies have made progress on crucial issues such as gender equality, environment, circular economy or diversity. You can take a look here.<\/strong><\/a>
